Swept Away

This has been such a dramatic month!
I experienced my very first hurricane and then moved back to Michigan, all within a week.

I sketched the idea for this dress in NYC while I was hiding from Hurricane Sandy in my friend Fiona's apartment.

Working it Out

Happy fall!  Here's what's been going on in New York:

I finished my internship at Diane Von Furstenburg.  Being able to see the Spring/Summer 2013 collection develop from start to finish was amazing, such an wonderful way to spend the summer!

New York New Dress

I bought this dress for $10 at thrift store and gave it a makeover!

This is the first dress I've made in New York! I don't have a machine here yet so it was all done by hand.

I See London...

I see Esperanza Spalding performing in my Impressionist Dress in Vienne, FRANCE at 'Jazz a Viene!'
(So sorry...I have to admit coming up with really cheesy titles for these posts is one of my favorite parts of doing this blog)

You can also see the dress on Esperanza's Style Blog! Batik Impressions

Here's another shot of the dress, and for more about the inspiration and process of making it, go right here!

Today was the second day of my second internship in New York City.  I'm still at DVF, but I am now also working at Found Future showroom, which carries all eco-friendly designs.  It is incredibly exciting and inspiring to be around so much beautiful clothing and accessories, especially because it is all made from sustainable materials!

The Unsinkable Photo Shoot

Despite car accidents, food poisoning, and torrential rainstorms, today was the final photo shoot for my senior show at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House.  I was so incredibly blessed with the most amazing team of photographers, hair and makeup artists, and models that made this day *magically* happen.

Here's a sneak peak, but you'll have to wait for the show to see the final images!

You Jump, I Jump

I'm not leaping off the back of the ship but jumping for JOY because the second Titanic dress is done, just in time for the movie re-release this week!  There will be a lovely photo shoot for this dress in a couple weeks, but for now here are some studio pictures:

This dress is made out of kozo and a vintage dress that I disperse-dyed and rust-dyed.

Today begins the last month of school...and my last month as a CCS student ever.  Even though our time together is running out, my memories of the College for Creative Studies will be safe in my heart and
my heart will go on and onnnnn.

(Haha I had to throw that in there somewhere!)

Almost Famous

I recently had the most exciting opportunity of my life: designing a dress for Esperanza Spalding as an option to wear the Grammy Awards this year.  Unfortunately the dress wasn't worn, but she may wear it on her tour this summer! Yay!

Inn Style

Here's a little preview of my latest dress!  More pictures to come, I just couldn't wait to share this picture taken at the Ferry Street Inn in Detroit by the lovely Lindee Robinson.  The awesome hair was done by Stein McGee and beautiful makeup by Camille LaMontagne.   Thanks to everyone!

Now I'm working on the fourth dress for my show. I'm going to be experimenting with dying fabric with rusty metal this weekend, so cool!
