New York New Dress

I bought this dress for $10 at thrift store and gave it a makeover!

This is the first dress I've made in New York! I don't have a machine here yet so it was all done by hand.

Life's a Garden...Dig it!

I changed my mind, I'm too excited about these pictures not to post them until the show!  Here is the final dress, photographed in the beautiful gardens at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford house in Grosse Pointe.

Shape up or Ship Out!

I've know I've been neglecting my blog, I am going to dedicate this week to catching up on what's been happening with my senior year, because the Bridget Show must go on!

Kozo is a natural fiber from mulberry plants and commonly used for papermaking.  I made this piece last year out of kozo:

I've been working with kozo in my major studio class to make two dresses, so I will now present a sneak peak of my progress!

These are my inspiration pictures:

My first dress is inspired by a photo of bow of Titanic decaying underwater:

Making millions of kozo barnacles!

I just started the second dress, but here is what I have so far!  I was inspired by the Winged Nike statue, which is also standing on the bow of a ship.

There's still so much to do and only 6 weeks to do it!!!

Shopping Success!

I'm finally starting my dresses for my show!  I'm going to be re-purposing old dresses to create completely new ones.  My friend Lakea and I spent all Satuday shopping, and I found these three vintage dresses at Mother Fletcher's in Ferndale...my new favorite store!  It's like walking into the biggest, most magical closet full of dresses in every color! Here's what I bought:

I'm so excited to start sewing and dying, I'll be putting up pictures of my progress!

Ready, Cor-Set, Go!

I currently have a internship with Ivy's Custom Corsetry, where I help sew custom corsets and garments for customers and events.  Here are a couple of corsets I've made recently!  The first is a lace waist-cinching corset and the second is an under-bust corset.

Hummingbird Apron

This is an apron I made, the fabric is linoleum block-printed rayon.

I thought it would be fun to show some pictures of how this was made.
First, I carved the stamps out of linoleum.  Don't you just love the attractive apron I'm wearing?

Then I used the stamps to create the pattern on the fabric:

After that I painted in the orange flowers:

Then I dyed the orange fabric to match, and sewed it together!
Now if only I could cook I'd have a reason to wear it...

Sew Old, Sew Cute

My dad bought me this vintage Singer machine at an estate sale this weekend for a late birthday present!  Thank you THANK YOU dad, and also thank you for helping me carry it up/down all those stairs!  Ugh so heavy.

Doggie Style!

Oh get your dirty minds out of the gutter, this is literally about a stylish dog.  I made my friend Emily a pencil skirt and her cute little puggle Lucy a matching skirt out of the scraps!

Bunnies and Dresses

This is a collection of clothes I made last spring.  Thank you to Megan Marcoux for taking these adorable pictures!

The dark green dress, pink and white corset, pink belt, and blue skirt are made from handmade batik fabric, and the light green dress is hand-dyed.
